Twin Towns
Partnerships of cities, towns and regions have a long tradition in Germany. Such partnerships, or twinned communities create a cultural and economic exchange possible. Among other things, it also provides twin communities mutual support.
Neuss has created partnerships with five cities from different countries: Châlons-en-Champagne in France since 1972, Pskow in Russia since 1990, Rijeka in Croatia also since 1990, Saint Paul in the USA since 1999 and, more recently, Nevşehir in Turkey since 2007.
Partnership with the Russian city Pskow is based on bilateral exchange of students and deals with the strengthening of cultural relations as well. The sister city relationship between Saint Paul and Neuss finds its roots in the European Economic and Monetary Union (EU). This partnership is considered to be the key to better understanding and working relationships with the European Union.
