Tennis.
Tennis used to be a fashionable sport of kings and noblemen in France. Their “Jeu de paumme”, the game of palm, was very different from the lawn tennis that is played today. The matches took place in large galleries and the ball was played off the wall.
Lawn tennis came up in the 19th century when the Englishman Major Walter C. Wingfield invented it. The first world tennis championship was held in 1877 in Wimbledon. Seven years later a woman’s championship was inducted, too. Not only in Britain but in most parts of the British Empire this game became popular within a short period of time and by means of radio and television it became well known and loved beyond the British borders.
Even if you are not a professional tennis player there are a variety of tennis in Neuss that you can join and improve your game and social flair.
