The international trade fair is a self-supporting enterprise that has a reputation as one of the best organised in the world. Founded in 1947, the business enterprise Messe Düsseldorf has been built on a long tradition which was started in 1811. By 1902 an attendance of over 6 million visitors was registered.

The fair provides an exhibition space of 252,000 m² in 17 halls. All business segments are served. Most exhibitions are for trade visitors only but a small number of shows offer public days such as the extremely popular "boot''.

Located on the banks of the Rhine, it is close to the international airport and offers generous parking, shuttle buses and a broad public transport network. The entire structure of the grounds is distinguished by short distances and clear cross-linkages and offers services for every visitor. Restaurants, bistros and shopping are provided. The international lounge was created for guests from all over the world, functioning as a meeting point for information exchange and as a media centre with internet access, phone, fax and international newspapers.
